SUMMARY:Periklis Papapetropoulos – lavta seminar
DESCRIPTION:\nPeriklis Papapetropoulos, a renowned musician of eastern traditions and one of the most prominent masters of the lavta, will be in Brussels for the second time to conduct a highly appreciated seminar on the lavta (Constantinopolitan lute).\nHistorically, the lavta was played by the Greeks of Istanbul and was also a staple of Ottoman ensembles. In particular, the interplay of Istanbul’s lyra (kemençe) and lavta was very popular. Then the lavta fell into disuse and its role was taken over by the oud. The last two decades, though, more and more musicians invest in this fine instrument.\nAbout the instructor:\nPeriklis Papapetropoulos grew up on the island of Crete. His first musical experiences were with Cretan traditional music and at the age of 16, he participated in village festivals as part of the group of Psarantonis playing laouto and bulgari. In 1985 he met Ross Daly and studied saz and tanbur with him for several years.\nHe is a very experienced and renowned teacher of saz and lavta having taught at the Experimental Musical Gymnasium-Lyceum of Pallini, the society for the dissemination of National Music, the Academy of Simon Karas, and the Musical Workshop “Labyrinth.” He has many accomplished students who are today amongst the finest instrumentalists in Greece. He has recorded 2 solo CDs with his compositions.\nHe has collaborated with many great musicians of the traditional music scene such as Ross Daly, Mehmet Erenler, Talip Ozkan, Paco Penia, Djamchid Chemirani, Kabul Ensemble, Huun-Huur-Tu, Naseer Shamma, Dariush Talai, Hamid Reza Khabbazi, Pedram Kahavar-Zamini, Dhruba Ghosh, Rufus Cappadocia, Vassilis Soukas, Kostas Mountakis, Nikos Saragoudas, Chronis Aidonides, Stelios Petrakis, Giorgos Kotsinis, Domna Samiou, Christos Tsiamoulis, Christos Sikkis, Petros Tambouris and many more.\n\n\n\nSubscription fee: 135 euros\n\nThis fee includes lunch and coffee provided at the Seyir Muzik facilities.\nParticipants are being given free access to the concert of Ross Daly & Periklis Papapetropoulos scheduled on Friday January 30th, at 20:00 PM.\nStudents wishing to be informed about accommodation facilities, please send an email to seyirmuzik@gmail.com\n\nLanguage: English, Greek\nLevel: all levels\n\n\nAddress : Seyir Muzik, Rue du Bailli 52, 1050 Brussels\n\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jq8sa1OWfGg ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jq8sa1OWfGg )\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n
