“To play the flute is to listen to the bird behind your eyes” said the Dutch poet Daaldreef. Before Jowan Merckx discovered this poem, that was precisely what he had felt all these years but had been unable to put into words. Returning again and again to the essential, and doing so through playing melodies rooted in age-old styles and traditions.

Jowan played in various groups and ensembles in early music and folk. With his own group Amorroma, he offers a self-composed repertoire inspired by early music (medieval, renaissance and baroque) and traditional music from all over Europe.
