In this seminar, Murat Aydemir will explore the theoretical foundations of Turkish Makam, shedding light on the melodic structures, rhythmic patterns, and improvisational techniques that define this unique musical tradition. Through interactive analysis and demonstrations in different Makam and compositional forms, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the system as Aydemir will guide participants through the intricate modal system drawing from his acclaimed book “Turkish Music Makam Guide”.

Aydemir’s expertise as a Tanbur player and his years of experience as a teacher will be invaluable as he shares practical insights and techniques for understanding and playing within different Makams, as well as improvising and interpreting.
