Born in Konya – the birthplace of the whirling dervishes – Sadreddin Özçimi (°1955) is considered to be the most important neyzen (master of the ney) in Turkey today. In absolute purity, he continues the line of legendary neyzens of the 20th century, such as Niyazi Sayin and Akagündüz Kutbay. Throughout his life, Sadreddin Ösçimi never ceased to be the neyzen başı (first ney) in Mevlevi music ensembles, while maintaining an impressive teaching activity. Elected by Unesco, he has been invited to represent the ney and Sufi music across the five continents.
Widely recognized as an authority in the field of percussion as it is played within the frame of classical Turkish music, Fahrettin Yarkın is the author of the book entitled Usuls in Turkish Music. He has been working with Jordi Savall, Kudsi Erguner, Andre Rieu & many other significant artists around the world.
For this unique concert, Sadreddin Özçimi and Fahrettin Yarkın will be accompanied by two masterful musicians of the younger generation. Sadreddin Özçimi ‘s son, the masterfull neyzen Yasin Özçimi will accompany his father as a second ney player. Belgian oud player Tristan Driessens, specialized in Ottoman music, will play the oud.
