David Mayoral

He began his musical training under the guidance of Hebe Onesti (ear training) and Horacio Icasto (piano) and began his career in the world of classical percussion with Juanjo Guillem. Later he became interested in historical percussion, taking classes with Pedro Estevan.

At the same time he studied Arabic percussion with Shokry Mohamed and Salah Sabagh. He completed his training with courses and master classes with Glen Vélez (req and frame drumming), Keyvan Chemirani (zarb) and Pejman Haddadi (zarb and daff).

He develops most of his activity in groups dedicated to medieval, renaissance and baroque music (L’Arpeggiata, Hespérion XXI and La Capilla Reial de Cataluña conducted by Jordi Savall, La Galanía, Kapsberger Ensemble, La Ritirata, Eduardo Paniagua, Orphenica Lyra, Ensemble Eloqventia, Camerata Iberia, Dufay Colletive, Cuarteto de Urueña, Ensemble L’Amoroso, Les Sacqueboutiers, etc…. ) with which he has performed all over Europe and numerous countries in the world (Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Festival of Sacred Music in Fez, Instituto Cervantes in Beirut, Cairo Opera in Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Jerusalem Oud Festival, Kuwait, Book Fair in Cuba, Brazil, etc.).

In the field of ethnic and fusion music, he has performed with groups such as Radio Tarifa, Luis Delgado, Javier Coble’s Quartet, Albaraka, the Egyptian guitarist Ali Khatabb and with Joaquín Ruiz’s flamenco ballet. He was part of the trio Transit, which presented a pedagogical journey through the musical traditions of India, Cuba and the Middle East on percussion instruments.

He has played in numerous oriental dance companies, including Shokry Mohamed’s Hispano-Arabic Dance Company, the Al-Andalus Danza company directed by Nesma (Julia Salmerón) and the World Dance Company (Cristiane Azem and Lenna Beauty).

Among his recording collaborations, the following should be mentioned: Tangier (Luis Delgado/Nubenegra), Ibn-Arabi, Bestiario, Cantigas de Santa María de Atocha, Latidos de Al-Andalus (Pneuma Label), Passion for Percussion (with Shokry Mohamed), The Music of Ancient Egypt (N.
