Peter Udland Johansen

etter Udland Johansen was born in Oslo, where he also received his first training in singing, violin and piano. He completed his diploma studies in singing at the Norges Musikhøyskole with Ingrid Bjoner and Svein Bjørkøy in 1996 and his postgraduate studies in Basel at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Richard Levitt in 2000, supplementing his training with the tenor Hans-Peter Blochwitz.
Petter Udland Johansen is a singer, conductor and instrumentalist (piano, violin, mandolin, guitar and accordion) with a broad musical spectrum. He is equally at home with modern, classical and early music and works very successfully as a composer, choirmaster, instrumentalist and arranger. He performs regularly with ensembles such as Hi- rundo Maris, Pechrima, Capella Antiqua Bambergensis and Sagene Ring and has recorded several CDs for important CD labels such as: ECM Germany, Alia Vox Spain, Cap Records Germany, Ramee Belgium, Carpe Diem Records Germany, Grappa Norway, and Muve Records Switzerland.
In 2009, he founded the Hirundo Maris ensemble with his partner Arianna Savall, which specialises in early music and his own musical creations. The ensemble’s latest CD recording for ECM, ‘Chants du Sud et du Nord’, combines new music with historical instruments, a musical journey that closes the circle between new and old, north and south, summer and winter. Hirundo Maris performs at numerous music festivals in Europe, such as the Stanser Musiktage, the Cologne Early Music Festival, Jazz in Church Bucharest, the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, the Bachwochen Thun, the Styriarte, All’Improvviso Festival, Kirkemusikk Festivalen Oslo, Nordlysfestivalen Tromsø, the Festival in Dinan (Brittany), Seduced by harps (Belgium), the International Harp Festival in Sentmenat (Catalonia), Arp Sanati Dergi in Istanbul (Turkey), Festival Lanckorona (Poland) Tamburi Mundi (Freiburg) the Festival in Fontfroide and Philippe Maillard Productions (Paris). He teaches once a month in Barcelona in the music school ‘El Musical’ solo singing and choir. He is conductor for the choirs ‘Sing2gether’ in Schönenwerd and Allschwil Gospelchor in Allschwil. He is musical director/composer and arranger for fête médiévale de Saillon with over 200 singers and instrumentalists. Together with Christer Løvold and Mark B Lay he founded the group Pechrima. In addition to being a musician and singer, he is also a producer, composer and arranger. Pechrima is signed to the Musikvertrieb label in Zurich.
