Asad Qizilbash & Imran Khan
Since 1992, Asad Qizilbash has been the only sarod player in Pakistan. As a young musician, everything pointed to a future as a violinist. But when he witnessed the legendary sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, it was love at first sight. Asad found his mentor and decided to dedicate his life to mastering the nine-stringed sarod. Today, Asad Qizilbash stands as Pakistan’s only sarod player and enjoys international acclaim. He has toured extensively and even performed for Nelson Mandela.
But what makes the sarod so mesmerizing? Part of the lute family, the sarod has a deep, resonant sound. Unlike other instruments, it has no frets but features a metal fingerboard, allowing musicians to create beautiful glissandos and subtle microtonal nuances. Ready to be enchanted? Join us for a captivating evening as Asad Qizilbash takes you on a journey through the heart of North Indian ragas, accompanied by tabla player Imran Khan .
