Yurdal Tokcan & Tuba Tokcan – Songs from Istanbul

For this concert, Tuba Tokcan, accompanied by Yurdal Tokcan, will enchant the evening with a wonderful program of classical Turkish songs.

Yurdal Tokcan is recognised worldwide as one of the leading soloists on his instrument, the ud (or oud in Arabic). He combines older playing traditions of the instrument with stylistic innovations in a unique way. His level of playing technique is in a class of its own; even more impressive, however, are his flowing and highly emotional improvisations (taksim). They reveal the full depth and sensitivity of this great musician.

In his compositions and arrangements, Yurdal Tokcan maintains the balance between the worlds like no other. Traditionally rich melodies are embedded in unusual polyphonic structures without losing touch with tradition. The excellent musician is committed to a complex and consistent musical tradition and at the same time allows his own creativity the greatest possible freedom – without dogmatic restrictions.
