Tom Callens

Multi-instrumentalist (saxophones, clarinet and bass clarinet, flute), arranger and producer of jazz, pop and world music.

Born in 1982 in Kortrijk, Tom Callens studied jazz saxophone at the conservatoires of Ghent and Brussels. During this time, he won the ‘De Jong Jazztalent’ competition in Ghent twice and the ‘XL-Jazz’ competition at Lundis d’Hortense in Brussels once, with the groups ‘The News Wing’, ‘aRTET’ and ‘Collapse Quartet’. He took part in the creation of the “Lady Linn & her Magnificent Seven” project and played with this group for 7 years.
He has recorded a Vinyl-EP with his own group ‘South of the Border’ (American film music, 2011).
He participated in the emergence of “Little Dots” (intimate indie pop), arranged and produced their debut album (2014).
He acted as producer and musical director for singer-songwriter Amalia Vermandere’s debut album (2015) and for Castro & De Bende’s debut EP (Flemish hiphop, 2017).

In 2016 he founded the jazz septet ‘Lester’s Blues’, which showcases the music and style of Lester Young and Count Basie.

Tom is active in the following groups: Lester’s Blues, Tom-Lien & Pablo, Sam Gerstmans trio, Score Man, The Whodads, Castro & De Bende, La Compagnie d’Elias.
