Khaled Al Hafez
Khaled Al-Hafez is a Syrian vocalist and musician born in Aleppo on November 1, 1981. He grew up in a city renowned for its rich cultural and musical heritage—an environment that shaped his artistic awareness from an early age. Aleppo, with its deep-rooted traditions of qudud and muwashshahat, planted the seeds of a musical path that later developed into a fully realized professional career.
He received his musical education at the Aleppo Institute of Music, where he studied muwashshahat, music theory, and Eastern rhythmic systems. There he trained under distinguished masters of the tradition, combining formal academic study with the direct transmission characteristic of the classical Arab musical heritage. This dual approach endowed him with both authenticity of performance and a profound theoretical understanding.
In 2013, Al-Hafez relocated to Belgium, where he continued his artistic activity while maintaining a strong connection to his Arab musical identity. Through performances and collaborations in diverse cultural contexts, he has sought to present classical Arabic singing to new audiences and contribute to meaningful musical dialogue between East and West.
Khaled Al-Hafez has appeared in numerous concerts and festivals across the Arab world, Europe, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Turkey. His repertoire includes muwashshahat, adwar, and classical Arabic poetry set to music, delivered in a style that balances fidelity to the traditional school with a vibrant contemporary presence. His performances are distinguished by a thoughtful and refined approach to heritage repertoire, highlighting the beauty of Arabic maqam and rhythmic structures while making them accessible to new generations.
He previously served as an instructor of Classical Arabic Singing at the Higher Institute of Music, where he trained students in vocal technique, principles of healthy voice production, the understanding of the Arabic maqam system, and the expressive ornamentation that characterizes traditional vocal performance. He has also led numerous international workshops—including those at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop—as well as programs in the United States and Spain, focusing on a teaching methodology that combines theoretical insight with practical application.
Later, he co-founded the online academy “Maqami”, dedicated to teaching classical Arabic vocal art through digital platforms. Through this initiative, he shares his extensive experience with students from around the world, emphasizing the importance of balancing academic rigor with cultivated artistic sensibility.
Khaled Al-Hafez is recognized for his authentic Eastern vocal timbre and his ability to interpret muwashshahat and classical repertoire with expressive depth and technical precision.
