Michalis Kouloumis
Kouloumis was born in a musical family on the island of Cyprus. He first studied European classical violin, and then moved on to Eastern musical traditions, especially of the Eastern Mediterranean.
He studied simultaneously, traditional Greek music at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, and Physics at the University of Athens. He obtained his MA from Codarts and was the first alumnus to receive the 10/10 Excellence in Performance prize.
He performs and records with some of the most important representatives of the Mediterranean music scene and has performed in distinguished venues such as the Royal Albert Hall.
Michalis Kouloumis is a visiting teacher at Codarts, specialized in Violin, Makam Theory and Improvisation as developed in Ottoman classical and Greek traditional music.
