Miriam Encinas Laffitte
Miriam Encinas Laffitte
is a multifaceted Spanish musician and composer whose work seamlessly weaves together the intricate threads of medieval, traditional, and contemporary music. A virtuoso of both wind and percussion instruments, she is particularly celebrated for her mastery of the recorder, the dilruba, and various traditional percussion instruments, which she employs to create deeply evocative and rhythmically sophisticated soundscapes.
The daughter of renowned folk musicians Dolors Laffitte and Alfons Encinas, Miriam was immersed in the Catalan and European folk traditions from a young age. Her career is marked by a spirit of high-level collaboration; she is a frequent performer with legendary viol player Jordi Savall and his ensemble Hespèrion XXI, and she works closely with multi-instrumentalist Efrén López in projects that explore the shared musical heritage of the Mediterranean.
Her discography includes notable works such as Lluites precedents (2020) and the collaborative album Music for Shepherds and Sultans (2023). In addition to her international concert career, which includes scheduled 2025 performances at festivals like Wonderfeel and the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, she is a sought-after educator, leading influential seminars on musicianship and percussion at the Labyrinth Musical Workshop.
