Peppe Frana
Having developed a passion for American and British rock at a young age, he quickly became a target for the best electric guitar teachers in the area. At twenty, he was struck by an interest in non-European modal music through the music of Ross Daly and began studying the Turkish oud and other plectrum string instruments during frequent trips to Greece and Turkey, where he frequented some of the most renowned masters: Yurdal Tokcan, Omer Erdogdular, Murat Aydemir, Daud Khan Sadozai, and Ross Daly himself. His encounter with the members of the Micrologus Ensemble sparked an interest in medieval European music and the plectrum lute, of which he quickly became one of the most esteemed soloists and teachers, specializing in 14th-century Italian repertoire. From 2013 to 2015, he studied medieval lute at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis under the guidance of Crawford Young, marking his first experience of academic music study. He graduated with honors in philosophy from the Istituto Universitario “L’Orientale” in Naples.
