Pierre Hamon

Pierre Hamon is a preeminent French flautist and composer whose career is a poetic bridge between the ancient and the avant-garde. Renowned for his mastery of the recorder and the bansuri, Hamon’s artistry is rooted in a deep exploration of what he calls the “primordial sound,” blending meticulous historical research with the living traditions of Hindustani and Amerindian music.
A central figure in the early music revival, Hamon co-directs the acclaimed ensemble Alla Francesca, with whom he has released over fifteen award-winning albums. Since 1995, his long-standing collaboration with Jordi Savall and Hespèrion XXI has solidified his reputation as a world-class soloist on the international stage.
Beyond the concert hall, Hamon has garnered critical acclaim in film and digital media. He composed the haunting, pre-Columbian-inspired score for the animated film Pachamama (2018)—earning a César nomination—and contributed his unique soundscapes to the 2021 video game Humankind.
A dedicated pedagogue, he founded the first recorder class at the CNSMD de Lyon and currently shares his expertise at the Haute École de Musique de Genève. His vast discography, frequently honored with the Diapason d’Or, stands as a testament to a lifetime spent reviving the echoes of the past for the modern ear.
