Ruben Tenenbaum
Ruben Tenenbaum began his musical career in Nancy, learning the violin and liturgical chant. His discovery of Ottoman music led him to settle in Istanbul for seven years, where he studied with the masters of this ancient tradition.
Ruben Tenenbaum studied modal improvisation (taksim) in depth with Serdar Pazarcıoğlu, Fahrettin Çimenli, Necati Çelik and Derya Türkan. He performs classical Ottoman music with the Lâmekân Ensemble, with whom he has recorded three albums.
At the same time, he is developing his improvisational practice: acoustic and electric, in which he never ceases to try to bring together distant sounds without taking his eyes off the world around him.
The alla turca melodies of dÜmbÜk KorKuluK‘s grindcore and the shifting counterpoints to drummer Teresa Riemann‘s improvised poetry in Naked in the Zoo echo the sombre commentary on current affairs in Demain Damas and the bio-sonic fable Fusion Mitotique.
