Periklis Papapetropoulos – lavta seminar
Periklis Papapetropoulos, a renowned musician of eastern traditions and one of the most prominent masters of the lavta, will be in Brussels for the second time to conduct a highly appreciated seminar on the lavta (Constantinopolitan lute).
Historically, the lavta was played by the Greeks of Istanbul and was also a staple of Ottoman ensembles. In particular, the interplay of Istanbul’s lyra (kemençe) and lavta was very popular. Then the lavta fell into disuse and its role was taken over by the oud. The last two decades, though, more and more musicians invest in this fine instrument.
